“Man in his search for joy and happiness is running away from the Self, which is the real source of joy… now a method has been found to tap the Divine power”.

      – H.H. Mataji Shri Nirmala Devi

‘Saha’ means with and ‘ja’ means born, born with you and ‘Yoga’ is the union with the all-pervading power of Divine love. It is the right of every human being to unite with God.

The other meaning of ‘Sahaja’ can also be understood as easy, effortless, spontaneous. It happens all of a sudden because it is a living process just like our birth, our development in our mother’s womb, the trees full of flowers which later turn into fruits; similarly, it is an important, spontaneous and natural event which is also the peak of human evolution. It was founded by our Divine Mother Her Holiness Mataji Shri Nirmala Devi in 1970 and is widespread around the world.

Self-Realization is the key and a person gains his or her Self-Realization when the Kundalini within us is awakened. The Kundalini lies at the base of our spine in the sacrum bone and it travels through the subtle energy centres known as Chakras namely, Mooladhara, Swadhishthana, Nabhi, Anahad, Vishuddhi, Agnya, Sahasrara; when it crosses the limbic area, Sahasrara, (top of our head) cool breeze is felt on the top of our head and on our hands.  This cool breeze experienced after the Kundalini awakening has also been described in all religious and spiritual traditions of the world. This state further leads to thoughtlessness and results in our physical, emotional and mental well-being.

So, Sahaja Yoga means spontaneous union with the Divine which is the birthright of every human being. The meaning of the Divine, is the power of God, the all-pervading power which does all the living work like transformation of flower into fruit, different seasons, and through Sahaja Yoga we become one with this Divine, feeling it on our fingertips. There is no give and take, no obligation, it is just a simple happening.

Once that happens, the next important thing is to establish ourselves, it is important to understand what it is and how to keep it established. For some it takes a day and for some it might take months and then you become the master, a person identified with truth. You are no more afraid of anyone and always tell the truth.

This meditation is helpful in many ways. It is not a meditation of some sort of chanting or something which claims that a person can fly in the air. It is just meditation by which we enter ‘within’ ourselves. It is the complete knowledge of the Divine power; how to handle it, how to work it out and how to use it. Sahaja Yoga meditation is relevant for all age groups and as a byproduct of the Self-Realization, all our physical problems are cured as our Kundalini works out this meditation looking after our illness and our curing.

As quoted by Shri Mataji, “Within us lies the peace, the beauty, the glory of our being. There is an ocean of all that. We cannot seek it outside. We have to go ‘within’, what they call ‘in the meditative state’; you seek it, you enjoy it”. Mother has said that going out to find joy, so called ‘joy’, so called ‘happiness’ so called ‘glory’ of worldly powers and worldly possessions, has to be reversed. Instead of seeking the ‘joy’, the ‘bliss’, ‘outside’, it has to be projected ‘within’ ourselves. Sahaja Yoga helps us experience the inner peace, the joy, the bliss which we so seek in the outer world. It connects us with the power that created us, with the all-pervading power, with the Divine, with God, which is our birthright.
